AN INTRODUCTION TO
THE CLASSES
Kindergarten 1
& 2
Children start their ballet training in these
classes at the ages of 3 to 5. The emphasis at this stage is on fun, and
children learn some basic technique to well known nursery rhyme music, and also
use their imagination in free expressive movement.
Pre-primary
ballet
At the age of 6 children in this class are taught
more formally and also learn group dances. They are coached for their first
examination which is taken as a group with instruction from their teacher in
the presence of an examiner. This provides an excellent introduction to the
examination system.
Pre-juvenile tap
At the age of 4 children are encouraged to start
tap classes. This is an introductory class where the children sing and dance to
well known songs and learn basic steps.
Grade Classes in
ballet and tap
At the age of 6+ the children enter Grade Classes
and begin to progress from Primary through Grade 6 to the major examinations.
Children are entered for examinations when they have reached the required
standard, which depends upon the individual’s ability and regular attendance at
classes.
The Chorus Line
From the age of 7, children can also join The Chorus Line – the school’s own theatre and
stagecraft performance group.
Adult classes
Classes are held in beginners and intermediate
ballet and tap. Examinations are available for those who wish to sit them, but
classes are informal and are suitable for anyone who wishes to have fun and
keep fit.
Private lessons are available by arrangement.
